Background Information

Motion occurs when an object moves from one place to another. Motion is determined by the forces that act on the object. There are some movements that might cause other movements to take place. Things change when an object moves at the same speed and/or in a straight line. Things around us are constantly moving and changing.

Activity: Science Vocabulary Map

The following activity will promote vocabulary development. By using Vocabulary Maps students will think about these vocabulary terms in a different way. Increasing students’ vocabulary is essential in developing comprehension.

Materials

Procedure

  1. Model for students how to complete Vocabulary Map.
  2. Pair up students.
  3. Pass out a vocabulary map to each pair.
  4. Teacher will assign each student a word.
  5. Students will work collaboratively with a partner to complete Vocabulary map for the assigned word.
  6. After all students have finished, have each pair present their word.
